  • Marlene Peters -Lawrence is a Clinical Trials Specialist inthe Division of Blood Diseases and ResourcesBlood(DBDR), Epidemiology and Clinical Therapeutics Branchat the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI).Ms. Peters-Lawrence has been with NIH for twenty years, and currently co-leads multicenter domestic and international sickle cell disease programs. She oversees’ clinical studies management, community engagement outreach eventsand evaluation of NHLBI funded projects.

 

Ms. Peters-Lawrence’ commitment to caring for individuals with sickle cell disease stems from working as a Respiratory Therapist in critical care medicine and as aResearch Nurse in the bone marrow transplant, hematology unit.  Her passion for her work has been acknowledged by the numerous awards she has received over the years, including Nurse Chief Award for Exemplary Clinical Research, NHLBI Director’s Award for Diversity in Population Recruitment and the Excellence in Mentorship award. Marlene, is the stakeholder, engagement and outreach specialist for the Blood Division and serves as Co-chair of The Department of Health and Human Services, Sickle Cell Stakeholder Engagement Workgroup in the Office of Minority Health, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health.  She is a member of the American Nurse Association and is passionate about finding strategies to increase minority participation in clinical research.

 

Ms. Peters-Lawrence received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville University and aCardiopulmonary Science degree from Valencia College. She is currently pursing her graduate degree in education and business administration.
